The release of the full game has other problems, however, namely stability. Players were extremely disappointed by the near constant crashing out of the game, resulting in corrupted characters, loss of progress or items, and just a general inability to the play the game. There were other minor gameplay bugs that affected game at release. A patch was promised and released after about two weeks, which improved the game for many. However, for me, it made it worse. But the automatic backup of characters and improved character retrieval tools made it as bad when the game did crash. Which it did. Often.

I joked about my review for Titan Quest being a single line: “This would be a great game, if it weren’t for the crashing.” And while that is true, I do want to expand on that. On the great game part, at least, because really what you can say other than “Crashing is not fun and I want it to stop.”

I believe that Titan Quest is one of the best Diablo 2 clones to be put out, in terms of gameplay. The improvements to the graphics are pretty massive. Titan Quest is simply beautiful to behold. The scenery is gorgeous and the places that should feel epic do. From a zoomed out perspective the monsters appear interesting and distinctive. There is some loss of pretty if fully zoomed in, but I’m not sure I could play the game that way. When you run through a field of wheat, the wheat sways behind you and springs back up. Birds fly above your head, leaves fall to the ground, waves recede from your wake, and you have an effect on the world.

Ironlore implemented three different automatic loot filters: all loot, all non-broken loot, all magical or better loot. This is a boon as there is a massive amount of loot that drops in the game and very quickly only the magical stuff is good enough to get picked up. Any weapon or armor that enemies are wearing will be dropped upon their death. However, the vast majority of those items are damaged in battle, leading to a very overfull all loot filter. Which leads to very full bags.
